Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is just another airport out of the two international airports of the cit. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila along with the other international airport of Manila act as international gateway of the country of Philippines. The other airport i.e. the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport is mainly for the landing of the low-budget airlines. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is situated in the NCR or Metro Manila National Capital Region. This is along the border that crosses between the Parañaque City and Pasay City. The border is located 7 kms towards the southern part of Manila at close by the Central Business District of Makati.The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is controlled by the Manila International Airport Authority abbreviated as MIAA.
The MIAA is a functioning body under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC). With the increase in tourism in Boracay, which is a popular beach destination, more and more flights have been introduced for the convenience in traveling to this island. Even the number of hotels in Boracay is also increasing in number to cope up with the growing tourism industry. Most of the major domestic flights towards Boracay operate from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. In the year 2006, the airport handled as many as 17,942,465 passengers which can be called as a remarkable progress made by the airport.



Initially the first airport that was opened in Manila was the Manila International Air Terminal. It was in the year of 1937 when it was opened in the Nielson Field. It is now the central business district of Makati city. In 1948 the airport base was shifted to Villamor Airbase where the NAIA-2 now stands. After a fire damage in 1981, a new structure was build by the name of NAIA-1 and it could accommodate more number of passengers. On August 17, 1987 the airport was named Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

With the recommendations of the Department of Transportation and Communications two more terminals of the Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport - NAIA-2 and NAIA-3 were built. Some of the airlines which operate in this airport are Asiana Airlines, Gulf Air, Philippine Airlines, Thai Airways International, United Airlines, Trans World Airlines and Pacific Airways to name a few. The Manila Light Rail Transit System is a mere 2 kms drive to the Baclaran station.
